Florentina Holzinger to represent Austria at 2026 Venice Biennale amid Kunstverein Hannover exhibitions

Kunstverein Hannover has launched three new presentations examining institutional presence within urban environments, with a focus on concepts of access and control. Austrian choreographer Florentina Holzinger, born in 1986, will represent Austria at the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026. Her practice is characterized by extreme physicality, blending high culture with entertainment through stunts, aerial work, endurance training, and combat sports. After abandoning architecture studies, she pursued choreography at Amsterdam's Academy of Theatre and Dance, concentrating on the body. Holzinger's work incorporates ballet, opera, circus, martial arts, freak show aesthetics, and reality TV formats. One of her pieces, CRASH PIPE (2026), is part of the current presentations. The exhibitions collectively question how institutions interact with and control urban landscapes.
