First Office transforms Los Angeles ranch from reality TV set to family home

A midcentury ranch in Los Angeles previously owned by Eden Sasson of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills had been altered for television production, compromising its original character. New owners Berta and Jon Praeger, who had rented the property before purchasing it, commissioned California firm First Office to create a functional family residence for their two children. The architects removed previous ad-hoc renovations to restore the home's essential qualities. Exterior work emphasized repair rather than replacement, including removal of tile veneer, fixing cracked stucco, and applying fiber cement recladding in select areas. The facade received an earthy beige paint, giving the project its name: Beige House. This transformation shifted the property's focus from set design to livability while preserving its architectural integrity.
