First Nations artists present large-scale paintings in landmark National Gallery exhibition

So, on April 11, 2026, the National Gallery in Kamberri/Canberra kicked off an exhibition called Ngura Puḻka—Epic Country. It features 30 impressive large artworks created by prominent First Nations artists and groups from the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, Coober Pedy, and Tarntanya/Adelaide in South Australia. The exhibition will be open until August 23, 2026, highlighting expansive depictions of Country that respect Tjukurpa, which encompasses the cultural stories and laws of the Aṉangu. Both individual artists and gender-specific groups contribute, showcasing deep connections to their culture and land, enriching the understanding of their ancestral areas. This project is a remarkable feat in both scope and significance.
