First Feature Documentary on Gregory Gillespie Premieres at Vero Beach Museum of Art

The Vero Beach Museum of Art will host a screening of 'The Painted Life of Gregory Gillespie' on May 9, 2026. This award-winning documentary, produced over four years, represents the first feature-length exploration of the painter Gregory Gillespie (1936–2000). Gillespie's artistic career began with a 1966 solo exhibition, establishing his reputation for detailed figurative works, self-portraits, and landscapes. His early practice involved painting over photographs clipped from periodicals, using collage techniques to alter scenes with invented components. Later, the artist shifted toward hyper-realistic imagery. The event, scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m., is included in the museum's Second Saturday program, which offers free admission.
