Finarte's June 9 Auction Features Guttuso, Fontana, Capogrossi and Brandimarte Collection

Finarte will hold a Modern and Contemporary Art auction on Tuesday, June 9, in Milan, featuring works spanning the Italian 20th century from Informale to conceptual research of the 1970s. The top lot is Renato Guttuso's 1962 oil on canvas "Su La Zattera della Medusa" (estimate €100,000–140,000), an expressionist reinterpretation of Théodore Géricault's 1819 painting of the Méduse shipwreck. Lucio Fontana's 1950 polychrome glazed terracotta "Battaglia" (diameter 48.5 cm, estimate €40,000–60,000) exemplifies his Spatialist phase. Giuseppe Capogrossi's 1956 "Superficie 189" (oil on canvas, estimate €50,000–70,000) belongs to his modular sign series from the Origine group. Filippo De Pisis's 1926 "Natura morta con pesci, limoni e bottiglia" (oil on cardboard on canvas, estimate €15,000–20,000) dates from his Parisian period. A dedicated section offers the collection of Professor Sandro Brandimarte (1951–2024), featuring works by Fabio Mauri, Gianfranco Baruchello, Shozo Shimamoto, Fabrizio Plessi, and Giulio Paolini. The highlight is Fabio Mauri's 1970–71 mixed media collage "Assenza della memoria" (estimate €20,000–30,000). The exhibition is open to the public from Friday June 5 to Monday June 8 at Finarte's Milan headquarters, Via dei Bossi 2, 10:00–19:00.
