Festspielhaus Hellerau faces funding cuts as federal support ends

The Europäische Zentrum der Künste at Festspielhaus Hellerau in Dresden is projected to encounter a funding deficit of around €523,000 in 2025, following the cessation of federal support for the Bündnis internationaler Produktionshäuser. Currently, Hellerau has €267,000 left from its previous project phase. Martin Heering, the Commercial Director, expressed concerns about the feasibility of staging performances, while David Klein referred to the financial circumstances as 'difficult waters.' Nevertheless, the upcoming 2025/2026 season is expected to draw 43,400 attendees and yield €380,000 in ticket revenue. Anticipated revenues for 2025 are close to €1.8 million, increasing to €1.9 million in 2026. Intendant Carena Schlewitt aims to present a varied program, featuring Cloud Gate Dance Company and a concert dedicated to Jörg Widmann. The 3rd Hybrid Biennale is set to commence on October 7.
