Feng J's Dragonfly Sculpture to Feature in Monet Centenary Exhibition at Giverny Museum

High jewelry artist Feng J will present a new sculptural work at the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny in France. The piece, titled 'Rêverie à Giverny,' is a stylized dragonfly crafted from titanium and bronze, with wings incorporating chalcedony, serpentine jade, and aventurine. It will be included in the exhibition 'Before the Water Lilies: Monet Discovers Giverny, 1883–1890,' which opens on March 27 and continues through July 5. The exhibition commemorates the centenary of Claude Monet's death. Feng J, who is based in Shanghai and Paris, describes the sculpture as a poetic tribute to Monet's water lily paintings while also referencing traditional Chinese symbolism. She developed the concept after visiting the museum in summer 2025. The artist notes that encountering Monet's work during her childhood in Hangzhou and later at the China Academy of Art had a lasting impact on her aesthetic approach. This presentation coincides with Feng J's tenth anniversary as a high jewelry artist and represents her first significant departure from purely gemstone-based jewelry. Museum director and exhibition curator Cyrille Sciama remarked that Feng J's creations offer a notable homage to Monet's paintings through their manipulation of light, transparency, and compositional balance. In addition to the sculpture, Feng J is creating a series of brooches inspired by Monet's 'Water Lilies with Willow Branches' (1916–19). The first brooch, featuring a central emerald surrounded by numerous double rose-cut stones set in a 'floating' technique, was donated to the museum last summer. Feng J's work, which blends Western Impressionist influences with elements of traditional Chinese ink painting, is held in several major institutions, including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Long Museum in Shanghai. The Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny, founded in 2009, is situated near Monet's former home and gardens.
