Fauna Robotics has introduced Sprout, a portable humanoid companion robot that uses antenna-like eyebrows and LED light animations to convey emotions. Standing 1.07 meters tall and weighing 22.7 kilograms, Sprout is designed for both indoor and outdoor use without restricted zones. It can walk, kneel, crawl, sit, wave, dance, jump, and grip objects. The robot features microphones for voice input and spoken commands, and communicates through moving antenna eyebrows, LED facial displays, and body posture. Developers can perform manipulation tasks using built-in mapping and localization support, enabling data collection for AI research in locomotion, manipulation, and interactive behavior. Sprout's soft exterior minimizes pinch points, and its software limits force to avoid breaking objects. Time-of-flight sensors monitor surroundings for obstacles and people. The battery provides three to three and a half hours of runtime, swappable for extended operation. Fauna Robotics describes the 'deployment gap'—the difficulty of moving robots from factory to home—and positions Sprout as flexible enough to transition between industrial and domestic settings. The Creator Edition is already available to ship, targeting developers, researchers, and institutions.
