Father documents son's rare disease through photography

Björn Seidel, an ethnologist born in northern Germany, has been photographing his 24-year-old son Salomon, who was born with leukodystrophy, a rare genetic disorder affecting nerve signal transmission. The condition has progressively impaired Salomon's motor skills and speech; he now relies entirely on his parents. Seidel moved his family from Germany to Paris after Salomon's birth to access better medical care. The photographs capture Salomon's life and the way others perceive him. Leukodystrophy is extremely rare, with fewer than 100 cases in Germany.
