Exhibition Showcases Irving Penn's Diverse Photographic Legacy in Rome

An exhibition titled 'Irving Penn. Photographs 1939–2007' is currently on display at the Centro della Fotografia in Rome, running until June 29. The show features 109 photographs by Irving Penn, a renowned 20th-century photographer known for his work in fashion, portraiture, and still life. The images are sourced from the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. Curated by Alessandra Mauro, Pascal Höel, and Frédérique Dolivet, the presentation avoids a purely celebratory approach, instead highlighting the multifaceted nature of Penn's artistic output. The photographs are organized into six distinct sections based on thematic and formal considerations, allowing viewers to appreciate the internal coherence and complexity of Penn's visual perspective. Penn, who passed away in 2009, is recognized for a body of work that defies simple categorization, and this exhibition aims to convey the richness and diversity of his contributions to photography.
