Exhibition 'Roma Terzo Millennio' Reimagines Rome's Contemporary Identity Through Art and Architecture

The exhibition 'Roma Terzo Millennio. La scia della cometa' is on view at Spazio WeGil in Rome until June 30, 2026. Conceived by diplomat Umberto Vattani and curated by Andrea Bruschi, Giuseppe D'Acunto, and Rosalia Vittorini, the project aims to shift Rome's narrative from a historical museum-city to a living contemporary metropolis. The show highlights urban transformations since Italian unification, focusing on the Tiber River's northern bend as a 'Contemporary District' featuring 20th and 21st century architecture by figures like Pier Luigi Nervi, Renzo Piano, and Zaha Hadid. It references Vattani's earlier role in establishing the Farnesina Collection, which introduced contemporary art into Italy's Foreign Ministry. The exhibition includes two sections: one presenting the project through media, and another serving as a workshop space. An installation by Mimmo Paladino titled 'Roma è una cometa' provides a symbolic centerpiece, while the display design by architect Anna Fresa interacts with the rationalist WeGil building by Luigi Moretti. The initiative is promoted by the Lazio Region in collaboration with LAZIOcrea.
