Exhibition 'Just Open Your Eyes' at Castello di Roddi Explores Art and Sustainability for EXPO 2026

The exhibition 'Just Open Your Eyes' will launch the 2026 EXPO della Sostenibilità, focusing on art's role in addressing environmental crises and rethinking humanity's relationship with the planet. Scheduled from April 18 to May 24, 2026, it will be held at Castello di Roddi in Cuneo province, Italy, as part of a broader sustainability platform spanning 12 cities across Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta. The show serves as an introductory event for the EXPO, which includes over 25 days of activities such as school meetings, public events, startup projects, and local initiatives. The exhibition is structured into three narrative sections: the first presents darker themes related to environmental fears, the second focuses on awareness and recognition of ongoing dynamics, and the third encourages reflection on individual and collective action for the future. Central to the exhibition is Valerio Berruti's video-animation 'Lilith,' previously shown at Palazzo Reale in Milan, which tells the story of a child confronting a nightmare, linking intimate and symbolic narratives to contemporary anxieties like climate change. The installation features external projections on the castle facade, transforming the historic architecture into a continuous visual surface accessible to casual passersby, while inside, original animation frames are displayed as standalone works to reveal the creative process. A soundtrack by Rodrigo D'Erasmo enhances the immersive experience. The exhibition aims to translate complex sustainability themes into an accessible, articulated experience using visual and narrative tools, fostering dialogue between art, territory, and environmental issues within a context that connects cultural practices, education, and innovation.
