Exhibition 'Céu-Eclipse' at Museu Paranaense Explores Human-Environment Relations Through Art

The exhibition 'Céu-Eclipse' is currently on view at the Museu Paranaense (MUPA) in Curitiba until the end of April 2026. Curated by Pollyana Quintella and Richard Romanini, the museum's artistic director, the show features eight artists who examine the relationship between humanity and the natural world through diverse artistic approaches. The exhibition title references a 1999 poetry collection by Régis Bonvicino and explores themes of environmental crisis, cosmic forces, and human agency. Featured artists include Flora Leite, whose installation aligns small bees with the sun's path; Francis Alÿs, presenting his work 'Tornado'; Guido van der Werve with 'Nummer acht, everything is going to be alright'; Erika Verzutti; Marcelo Conceição, who creates floating sculptures from urban materials; Alberto Garutti, whose installation 'Temporali' connects lightning strikes in Italy to lights in the museum; and works by Davi Kopenawa, Ailton Krenak, and Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe. The exhibition design incorporates recycled materials, including translucent agricultural fabric that will be repurposed after the show for a nursery and water collection system. A 200-page catalog will be published in mid-April, featuring interviews with consultants including scientist Marina Hirota, philosopher Déborah Danowski, and Yanomami artist-shaman Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe. The exhibition also references geologist Reinhard Maack, who established Paraná's first meteorological observatory in the 1930s. The Museu Paranaense, celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2026, plans urban interventions in Curitiba later in the year. Curators emphasize that the exhibition is not an ecological manifesto but aims to expand imaginative understanding of environmental issues.
