Exhibition at Fondation Dubuffet Highlights Jean Dubuffet's Final Decade of Prolific Creation

The Fondation Dubuffet in Paris is presenting an exhibition focusing on Jean Dubuffet's artistic output from 1974 to 1985, his last years before his death in 1985. At age 73, Dubuffet embarked on a new phase after concluding his well-known Hourloupe cycle, which had spanned 12 years and gained international recognition. Despite his advanced age, he produced an extensive body of work during this period, including over 1,500 paintings, more than 1,000 drawings, and around twenty series. The exhibition features over 150 pieces, such as paintings, drawings, lithographs, screen prints, and illustrated books, organized into four thematic sections. It also includes photographic portraits that document the artist's physical presence. The show is titled after Dubuffet's final painting, completed on December 1, 1984. The Fondation Dubuffet, located at 137 rue de Sèvres in the 6th arrondissement, is hosting the exhibition until October 24, 2026, with opening hours from Monday to Friday, 2 PM to 6 PM, and admission fees of 8 euros full price and 5 euros reduced. Dubuffet's work from this era is characterized by unpredictable, fluid forms that defy strict categorization as either figurative or abstract, reflecting his unique artistic impulse. The Hourloupe cycle, noted for its origins in accidental doodling with red and blue ballpoint pens during a phone call in 1962, exemplifies his ability to transform mundane actions into significant artistic endeavors.
