Evelyne Chevallier's Digital Collages: From Graffiti to Vast Landscapes

Evelyne Chevallier, a French-born artist based in Latin America, creates digital photocollages that blend photography, travel, and sociology. After two decades in the photographic industry and luxury houses like Cartier and Dior, she began making her own images in 2010 during a journey to northwestern Argentina. Her work initially focused on anonymous graffiti found on walls in Argentina, later expanding to other countries. Using Photoshop, she assembles photographic fragments into layered compositions. During the pandemic, her style shifted from dense, text-heavy collages to more restrained imagery emphasizing landscapes. Key works include 'AllSaints,' a collage of cemeteries in northern Argentina that celebrates memory rather than mourning. Her practice has been exhibited in Argentina, France, and Japan, with a 2014 residency in Montreal. She draws inspiration from the altiplano landscapes of Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, and Ecuador, and explores themes of solitude, cultural identity, and the coexistence of human traces with nature.
