Eva Chenyao He's Procrustean at COLLECTA Shanghai

COLLECTA is showcasing "Procrustean," a solo exhibition by sculptor Eva Chenyao He, from August 28 to September 13, 2026, at its Shanghai location on the 4th Floor of West Building, No. 77 Tai'an Road, Changning District. This exhibition reimagines the gallery's attic-like space, characterized by sloped ceilings and aged floorboards, as a platform for He's investigation into bodily conformity and systemic measurement. A key piece, "it took over my gravity," features 3D-printed resin legs and a rounded back connected by a chain to a wall bolt, symbolizing restricted movement. Additional works include a cranial retractor with a resin limb, stainless steel elements attaching pale ovals to the wall, and six pâte de verre livestock ear tags inscribed with English Braille lines from notable authors. The exhibition critiques the subtle enforcement of compliance through modern metrics. He, born in Shenzhen in 2001 and now residing in New York, is pursuing her degree at The Cooper Union.
