Europe backfills US force cuts in Nato, deputy commander says

Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe John Stringer stated that European Nato allies have mostly replaced assets cut by the US from its rescue plans for a war in Europe. The US recently announced massive reductions to forces it would contribute in a continental crisis, prompting Nato to request European countries to commit unpledged forces. Stringer, a former Royal Air Force fighter pilot, noted that where Europe cannot provide equivalent forces, it will match the effect with different assets. He made the remarks ahead of Nato's summit in Ankara next week, where allies aim to address US signals of pivoting away from Europe. Burden-sharing is now driven by military logic, he said, emphasizing European preparedness for the shift in US priorities.
