Eugenio Viola appointed director of Naples's Madre Museum

Eugenio Viola has been named the new director of the Madre Museum in Naples, returning to a role he previously held as curator at large from 2009 to 2016. Before this, he spent seven years as the artistic director and chief curator at MAMBO – Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá, departing in February 2025 due to claims of 'deterioration of working conditions,' which he stated were ignored by the board, leading to his contract termination. Under his leadership at MAMBO, the museum's reputation grew, showcasing local talents like Oscar Muñoz and featuring international artists such as UÝRA and Su Hui-Yu. In 2025, he curated the Bienal de Arte Paiz in Guatemala City and Antigua, and in 2022, he oversaw the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Viola has contributed to ArtReview, emphasizing the importance of museums in preserving vulnerable histories and fostering diverse narratives.
