Eric Schmidt Holds Roughly 1% of Anthropic, About Half of CEO Dario Amodei's Stake

Bloomberg reports that Eric Schmidt, the former Google chief executive, controls approximately 1% of Anthropic following a 2021 investment of tens of millions of dollars in the AI lab's Series A round. PitchBook data places Anthropic's valuation at $461 million at the time of that financing. The reported holding is notably large relative to the 2% stake held by co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei. Anthropic is widely expected to list publicly before the end of the year, and top-end market estimates put its value as high as $2 trillion. Should that figure materialize, Schmidt's position could add up to $20 billion to a net worth that Bloomberg currently estimates at $57.5 billion. Since leaving Google's top job in 2011, Schmidt has invested actively in technology through several vehicles, among them Tomorrow Ventures, Innovation Endeavors Management and his family office, Hillspire. His other artificial intelligence positions include Mistral, General Intuition and Reflection AI. Neither Schmidt nor Anthropic responded immediately to a request for comment.
