Epstein files reveal Leon Black as key Van Gogh collector

In January, the US Department of Justice made public the Epstein files, which disclose that investor Leon Black possessed Van Gogh's Quarry, located near Saint-Rémy, appraised at $60 million in 2016, along with Garden with Flowers, valued at $25 million. A prominent collector of Van Gogh, Black purchased Edvard Munch’s The Scream for $120 million in 2012. He sought financial guidance from Jeffrey Epstein, incurring fees of no less than $158 million. On June 26, Black testified before a House committee but declined to respond to inquiries regarding non-disclosure agreements with Epstein's victims. He has been summoned to testify again on July 16. Black maintains his innocence. Other Van Gogh pieces, such as Roofs, Arles, and Wheatfield with Sheaves, were used as loan collateral around 2016.
