EMST Athens Launches 2026 Exhibition Series on Greek Postwar Avant-Garde

The National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (EMST) has announced its 2026 exhibition program, which will focus on significant artists from the Greek postwar avant-garde movement. The initiative includes three major solo presentations: 'Jani Christou: Enantiodromia,' 'Niki Kanagini: An Ode to Things,' and 'Stathis Logothetis: Earth to Earth.' This series represents the start of a new curatorial phase that examines cosmopolitanism's intricate and sometimes debated impact across the Eastern Mediterranean region and its diasporas. Through retrospectives, archival displays, and contemporary installations, the program will revisit the interconnected cultural and socio-political histories of southeastern Europe, the Balkans, and the Near East, highlighting artists and stories that have often been overlooked or underrepresented. The exhibitions will be organized into four segments, featuring individual shows and a reinstallation of the museum's permanent collection, concluding with a large-scale international group exhibition. The project aims to shed light on marginalized narratives and foster a deeper understanding of the region's artistic legacy.
