Emmanuel Di Donna Presents Major Salvador Dalí Exhibition Before Closing Madison Avenue Gallery

Emmanuel Di Donna is organizing a significant exhibition of Salvador Dalí's work titled 'Dalí: The Great Years, 1929–1939' at Di Donna Galleries in New York. The show will run from April 16 through June 13, 2026, featuring over two dozen paintings, sculptures, and works on paper from the decade when Dalí developed his distinctive visual style and public identity. This presentation marks the first major Dalí exhibition in New York since the Museum of Modern Art's 2008 show and will be the final exhibition in Di Donna's current Madison Avenue space before he launches a new collaborative venture with Pace Gallery and David Schrader. The exhibition focuses on the period when Dalí joined the Surrealists, created his paranoiac-critical method, and produced imagery that would define his career. Loans come from prominent institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. Di Donna notes that assembling such an exhibition is challenging because major Dalí works are typically held by museums and important collections that rarely lend them. The dealer aims to shift public perception from Dalí's popular caricature toward the psychological depth and formal rigor of his early work. The exhibition also highlights Dalí's interdisciplinary collaborations with figures like Coco Chanel and Harpo Marx, positioning him as a precursor to contemporary artists who blend art, fashion, and commerce. This show concludes Di Donna's programming at his current location and reflects his gallery's focus on scholarly exhibitions that recontextualize artists within art historical narratives.
