EMMA presents major retrospective of Howard Smith's diverse oeuvre

Right now, the Espoo Museum of Modern Art (EMMA) is hosting a major retrospective on Howard Smith, who lived from 1928 to 2021. He was a versatile artist known for his vibrant printed fabrics with Vallila and his ceramics for Arabia. The exhibition features around 90 pieces he created from 1965 to 2010, showcasing his talents in painting, collage, papercuts, sculpture, textiles, and public art. Smith, originally from New Jersey, came to Finland in the early '60s for a short trip but decided to stay. Throughout his more than fifty years there, he made a significant impact on both small artworks and large urban projects, highlighting his lasting legacy in Finnish art.
