Emilio Prini's First Monograph Published Posthumously, Accompanying Major Rome Retrospective

A comprehensive monograph on Emilio Prini has been published by Sternberg Press, marking the artist's first such volume. This 425-page visual almanac documents Prini's complex artistic practice through photographs, archival materials, and contributions from numerous figures. The book accompanies a major retrospective exhibition titled "... E Prini" curated by Luca Lo Pinto at MACRO in Rome, which ran from October 2023 to April 2024. Lo Pinto notes that neither project would have existed during Prini's lifetime, as the artist resisted definitive categorization of his work. The volume features testimonies from Andrea Viliani, Anri Sala, Stefano Chiodi, John Knight, and includes archival interviews with Hans Ulrich Obrist. Prini's 1999 intervention at Edicola Notte in Rome's Trastevere neighborhood is recounted by artist H.H. Lim, detailing the artist's unpredictable creative process involving plexiglass vitrines, polystyrene panels, and lithographs. The book launch on March 11, 2024 at MACRO featured personal recollections from those who knew Prini. Born in Stresa in 1943 and dying in Rome in 2016, Prini was known for works that questioned exhibition formats, including a 1975 Milan gallery presentation described as an "exhibition of objects not made, not chosen, not presented."
