Ellis-Beauregard Foundation Expands Residency Campus in Rockland, Maine

The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation in Rockland, Maine, will unveil two custom-built structures on June 27, expanding its artist residency program. Designed by Baird Architects, the new buildings include a long structure for living and working space for four artists and an L-shaped building for performances and exhibitions. The residency, previously housed in a converted school without overnight accommodations, now offers stipends of $2,000 per month. The foundation also awards five $10,000 grants to Maine artists and three $50,000 cash awards annually for visual arts, choreography, and documentary film. Founded by artists David Ellis and Joan Beauregard, the foundation has hosted writers, filmmakers, photographers, and circus artists. Executive director Donna McNeil emphasized that the residency requires no final project. The expansion follows the success of painter Reggie Burrows Hodges, whose career launched after being discovered at a First Friday event by dealer Jake Dowling of Dowling Walsh Gallery, leading to representation by Karma and acquisitions by the Met, LACMA, and Crystal Bridges.
