Edita Schubert Retrospective 'Profusion' Opens at Muzeum Susch

The exhibition 'Profusion' at Muzeum Susch in Susch presents the first solo show outside the former Yugoslavia for artist Edita Schubert (1947–2001), running from December 13, 2025, to May 24, 2026. Curated by David Crowley, the survey highlights Schubert's diverse practice, which spanned painting, performance, sculpture, and photocopy-based works, avoiding a linear chronological presentation. Central to the exhibition is the installation 'Doorway' (1978), featuring life-size painted doors that reconstruct her workspace at the University of Zagreb's Institute of Anatomy, where she worked as a draftsperson. It includes references to her engagement with architectural forms like cupolas, her experiments with Xerox art, and works responding to the Yugoslav wars. The exhibition builds on prior scholarship by art historian Leonida Kovač, who manages Schubert's archive. Muzeum Susch's spiral layout and lack of wall texts encourage viewer interpretation, positioning the retrospective as a research-driven model for presenting artists posthumously.
