Eckersley Architects Completes Modern Addition to Victorian Home in Abbotsford

architecture-design · 2026-04-05

Eckersley Architects has designed a contemporary single-story extension for a historic Victorian weatherboard residence in Abbotsford, an inner-city Melbourne suburb. The project, known as Abbie House, was completed in 2021 and occupies 190 square meters. Situated directly across from a park with mature trees, the addition provides modern living spaces while preserving the original structure's character. Miwa Negoro served as curator for the architectural presentation. Photographer Dan Preston documented the completed work. This residential project represents a thoughtful integration of new and old architectural elements in an urban Australian setting, demonstrating how contemporary design can complement historical buildings.
