Ebola Treatment Trial Launches in Congo Amid Outbreak

Researchers in the Democratic Republic of Congo have begun a clinical trial of two experimental Ebola treatments in early July, targeting the Bundibugyo virus strain responsible for the current outbreak. The study, supported by the WHO and conducted at the Evangelical Medical Centre in Bunia, Ituri province, involves collaboration between the DRC's INRB, Oxford University, and the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp. Over 1,400 people have been diagnosed and 438 have died, according to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The trial offers hope as no specific treatments or vaccines exist for this strain.
