Dubbeldam Architecture + Design Unveils Three Futuristic Office Concepts for Teknion Exhibition

Toronto-based Dubbeldam Architecture + Design has developed three experimental office designs for furniture manufacturer Teknion, now featured in the 'Advanced Concepts 2.0' exhibition. The studio, led by founder Heather Dubbeldam, created the concepts after researching sources ranging from The Jetsons to pet psychology. Teknion selected all three proposals for prototyping. The designs include PetPod, an under-desk kennel for office dogs with a HEPA filter and treat drawer; RoamStation, a modular, self-driving workstation that returns to a charging dock nightly and features adjustable height and acoustic panels; and Nimbus, a dynamic ceiling system with retractable, sound-absorbing pillars that create temporary work zones via iPad control. The exhibition debuted at Teknion's New York showroom last fall and is currently on view through May at the company's Toronto showroom, located on the 20th floor of a Financial District building with views of the CN Tower and Lake Ontario. Dubbeldam emphasized that impactful design responds to human needs and connections. While currently conceptual, the proposals aim to personalize workspaces by accommodating pets, enabling flexible workstations, and adapting open areas. The designs utilize existing but not yet mainstream technology, focusing on employee wellbeing alongside innovation.
