Dua Lipa Opens Manifesto Library of 100 Banned Books in Porto

Dua Lipa, the renowned pop artist, has inaugurated the Manifesto Library, a permanent exhibit of 100 books that have faced bans or censorship, situated within the historic Livraria Lello bookstore in Porto, Portugal. This initiative is a partnership between Lipa's Service95 book club and Livraria Lello, one of the country's oldest bookstores, established in 1869 by French bookseller Ernesto Chardron. The modern library, found on the lower level, showcases white bookshelves and light wood seating, creating a striking contrast with Lello's intricate stained-glass skylight and carved mahogany shelves. The collection is divided into four themes: Control, Voice, Memory, and Power, featuring titles such as Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses, Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale, and George Orwell's Animal Farm. This library embodies the book club's commitment to honoring literature that incites dialogue and debate.
