Documentary on South Asian Women Architects Premieres at Mies van der Rohe Pavilion

The Fundació Mies van der Rohe has launched a documentary titled 'Transnational Narratives: A Documentary Celebrating South Asian Women in Architecture,' which premiered at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona on March 10, 2026. This film highlights the careers of six architects of South Asian descent: Sumita Singha, Chitra Vishwanath, Sara Khan, Fauzia Qureshi, Sajida Vandal, and Neelum Naz, whose work spans India, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom. It was produced through the fourth Lilly Reich Grant for Equality in Architecture, an initiative by the foundation aimed at addressing gender disparities in the field, where women constitute about one-third or fewer of professionals globally. The documentary team includes Dr. Igea Troiani, Dr. Mamuna Iqbal, artist-researcher Paula Roush, and filmmaker Rime Tsujino, focusing on bringing visibility to underrepresented contributions in architecture. The project underscores ongoing challenges in achieving equity and promotes the study of marginalized architectural practices.
