Docomomo Ibérico to Host 2027 Congress in Madrid Focusing on Modern University Architecture

architecture-design · 2026-03-24

The Docomomo Ibérico Foundation has approved a proposal from the Official College of Architects of Madrid to host its fourteenth biennial congress in Madrid in late June and early July 2027. The event, titled 'University and Modernity: Architecture in Service of Pedagogy,' will examine Modern Movement architecture from 1925-1975, particularly in educational settings. This marks the first time Madrid will host the gathering, coinciding with the centenary of the Ciudad Universitaria campus, which was Europe's first American-style university campus. The congress will feature collaboration with the campus consortium and its member universities, using Iberian Peninsula university buildings as case studies for thematic discussions. Founded in 1993, Docomomo Ibérico works to document and preserve Modern Movement architectural heritage.
