DKGR Architects unveils schematic design for restoration and expansion of Indiana's historic Crump Theatre
On April 8, Brian Schubert of DKGR Architects unveiled the first designs aimed at restoring and expanding the Crump Theatre in Columbus, Indiana. This project is significant as it's the first architectural blueprint for the state's oldest theater still in operation. Plans include adding a new east wing, expanding the lobbies, and improving the main hall, which holds 750 to 800 seats. To fund the project, a campaign is looking to raise $15 million for construction and another $3 million for ongoing support, with work expected to start in late fall 2026. The theater, originally Keith's Arcade in 1871 and renamed Crump's New Theatre on October 30, 1889, was rescued from demolition in 1989 by Vernon Jewell. The new design will blend original 1871 bricks with modern materials.
