DJ Sniff Releases 32-Minute Turntable Solos LP on Discrepant
DJ Sniff, the alias of Takuro Mizuta Lippit, has unveiled a new album titled Turntable Solos, which features a single track lasting thirty-two minutes, released under the Discrepant label. Previously serving as the artistic director at STEIM in Amsterdam, Lippit has crafted specialized instruments that elevate conventional turntable performances. This album delves into the art of vinyl manipulation as a form of sculpture, employing techniques such as friction, micro-variations, feedback loops, and irregularities in records. His innovative setup merges custom devices with advanced techniques for real-time sound manipulation. The performance oscillates between dense textures and airy segments, showcasing roughness and grainy vibrations. Lippit’s work is influenced by turntable pioneers like Christian Marclay and John Cage. The cover, titled Return The Eye, is designed by Tekkhean Lee, embodying the project's reflective nature.
