Devin Troy Strother's Midcareer Exhibition at ArtCenter College of Art and Design

From March 22 to July 26, 2025, ArtCenter College of Art and Design presented 'Dancing in the Dark,' a survey exhibition of artist Devin Troy Strother's work. The show featured pieces from 2012 onward, including the 2019 work 'If Haim Steinbach was my baby's daddy,' which references the older artist's approach to displaying cultural artifacts. The exhibition, split between the Williamson Gallery and Mullin Gallery, highlighted Strother's evolution from early colorful paintings with provocative humor to recent introspective installations. It captured the artist's midcareer reflections on artistic identity and market pressures, with works referencing figures like Haim Steinbach, Paul McCarthy, and Philip Guston.
