Design Observer Reader Survey Results and Platform Changes

Design Observer, a prominent design magazine, has unveiled findings from its second annual community survey, which garnered close to 50 responses. The results indicated that readers appreciate the publication's insightful perspectives on the future of design, the workings of designers, and its distinctive voice. Additionally, the audience commended its coverage of design within civic contexts. Notably, every participant expressed willingness to recommend Design Observer to others, an increase from 65% last year. Readers expressed a desire for enhanced community engagement, including virtual discussions, and highlighted the importance of addressing issues like AI, democracy, climate change, and economic disparity. In response, Design Observer will introduce regular virtual events starting this fall, featuring live podcast recordings and interviews through its Substack community. The platform will transition its email service to Beehiiv on September 14, following a pause on September 7. The newsletter, The Observatory, is curated by Rachel Paese and overseen by Editor-in-Chief Ellen McGirt. The article also features insights from Japanese designer Kenya Hara regarding the significance of design and introduces a new podcast, Draw the Line, focused on the Supreme Court case Louisiana v. Callais.
