Deichtorhallen Hamburg Exhibits F.C. Gundlach's Private Photography Collection

The Deichtorhallen Hamburg presents Cocktail Prolongé: F. C. Gundlach Special, an exhibition of around 300 works from the private collection of fashion photographer F.C. Gundlach. Active from the 1950s to the 1980s, Gundlach shaped the aesthetic stylization of the female body in fashion photography, but his personal collection focuses on more provocative, ambiguous, and profound expressions of corporeality. Themes include extravagance, queerness, vulnerability, and nonconformity, exploring how the body becomes a medium for roles, fantasies, desires, and critical demands. Gundlach began collecting these works in the mid-1970s, and the exhibition highlights their topicality amid the growing visibility of the queer community, revealing an intimate personal aspect of the collector.
