Debbi Kenote Exhibits Shaped Structural Paintings at Cristin Tierney Gallery

Cristin Tierney Gallery is hosting a solo exhibition titled 'No place out of the wind' featuring new works by artist Debbi Kenote. This presentation represents Kenote's inaugural solo show with the gallery. The exhibition will be open to the public from April 4th through May 9th. An opening reception is scheduled for April 10th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, during which the artist will be in attendance. The show continues Kenote's investigation into shaped painting, where canvases function as both images and physical objects. Each piece begins with a custom-built stretcher designed by Kenote before being stretched and coated with oil paint. The structural beams themselves become integral compositional components, producing intricate forms that project into the surrounding space. Kenote's artistic approach is influenced by her childhood in the Pacific Northwest, where she encountered craft practices like woodworking and quilting, as well as her training in sculpture. She treats the canvas as a construction site, merging traditional painting with three-dimensional form.
