DAQ Studio Designs Visual Identity for Simbiopolis Exhibition Merging Organic and Digital Elements
DAQ Studio, a Barcelona-based design firm founded by David Acevedo and Anna Miracle, developed the branding and visual identity for the Simbiopolis exhibition. The exhibition is hosted at Palau Robert in Barcelona and is promoted by the Government of Catalonia and Mobile World Capital. Simbiopolis is an immersive showcase that examines how technology influences societies, focusing on cities, people, and nature, envisioning a future where distinctions between species, technology, and the environment become indistinct. To address this theme, DAQ Studio created a hybrid ecosystem in their design work, blending organic forms with digital geometric shapes to produce a visual style that integrates biological and technological aspects. This approach is evident in 3D imagery featuring hard-edged blue elements alongside soft green and orange living forms, as well as in black-and-white sketches outlining unique biological structures. The studio's expertise in illustration and animation, with an emphasis on geometry, volumetric forms, contrasting colors, and surreal impossible shapes, is reflected in this project. Beyond static graphics, the identity includes an animated spot to dynamically present the hybrid world, with post-production handled by Metropolitana and 3D animation by Mikel Casado Iriarte. The visual system effectively translates a complex subject into a coherent and impactful design, demonstrating how juxtaposing disparate concepts can yield strong artistic results. The project serves as a case study in visual communication for contemporary themes.
