Danish Women's Football League Unveils Rebranded Identity and Visual System

institutional · 2026-04-02

In November 2025, the Danish women's football league, now known as the League Association, launched a comprehensive rebranding initiative to enhance its profile and align with the sport's global growth. The effort was driven by the association's director, Marie Greve, who emphasized the need to attract sponsors and accelerate elite women's football development in Denmark. The Copenhagen-based design firm NORD ID was enlisted to create a new visual identity and naming system. Research by NORD ID, including market analysis and interviews, revealed that the league had long been overshadowed by men's football, prompting a shift in perception. As a result, the gendered names were removed: the Women's Division Association became the League Association, and its divisions were renamed Division A, Division B, and Division C, moving away from terms like Women's League. Frederik Sommer, COO at NORD ID, stated that the goal was to focus on the game itself rather than gender, establishing an independent brand. The visual identity features a modular design system inspired by pitch lines and angles, centered around an asterisk symbol, as explained by Design Director Michael Mandrup. A custom monospaced typeface was developed in collaboration with Danish type designer Trine Rask to ensure consistency across digital and media platforms. The rebranding reflects broader trends in women's football, which generated over €500 million globally in 2024, and aims to position the Danish league as a distinct entity. The new identity is currently active on websites and social media channels.
