Danielle Fretwell's 'Terms of Consumption' at Olney Gleason

The Olney Gleason gallery has launched a solo exhibition named 'Terms of Consumption,' showcasing new oil paintings by Danielle Fretwell, an artist from New Hampshire born in 1996. This exhibition features a collection of still lifes that delve into the concepts of truth and illusion. Fretwell employs a mix of painting, photography, and printmaking techniques to challenge viewers' perceptions of visibility and concealment. Her works often juxtapose meticulously crafted still lifes—comprising fruits, desserts, and tableware—with abstract areas of color and texture she refers to as 'veils.' The still lifes draw inspiration from Dutch Golden Age banquet scenes, utilizing bird's-eye perspectives and subdued lighting to enhance their visual allure.
