Daniel Arsham Lists Converted NYC Firehouse for $8.9M

Artist Daniel Arsham has listed his converted New York firehouse at 185 Lafayette Street for $8.9 million with Compass. The 19th-century, 2,800-square-foot structure retains original patterned brickwork and cast-iron pillars, with interiors renovated by Arsham after he purchased the landmarked property in 2022. Features include custom built-in bookshelves, a spiral staircase painted in his signature mint green, a ground-floor garage for his Porsche 964 Carrera 2, and a landscaped roof terrace. The home was decorated with works by KAWS and Josh Sperling, plus Arsham's own eroded Venus de Milo sculpture (not included in sale). Built in 1887 and designed by Napoleon LeBrun, the firehouse originally housed Engine Company No. 55. After the company moved in 1898, the building served as sleeping quarters for Deputy Fire Chief Thomas R. Langford, then housed an automotive repair shop and a surplus store. Photographer Terry Richardson acquired it in 2009 for $3.3 million and listed it for $5.5 million in 2022 before Arsham's purchase.
