D.C. Theaters Navigate Recovery and Leadership Shifts in 2026–27 Season Planning
Theaters in the Washington, D.C. area are gearing up for their 2026–27 seasons as they navigate a gradual recovery from the pandemic. Round House Theatre marks its 50th season with productions such as August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Alex Lin’s Chinese Republicans. Signature Theatre plans to co-produce Stephen Sondheim’s Follies while also showcasing Merrily We Roll Along and Urinetown. Under the direction of Gustavo Ott, GALA Hispanic Theatre will present his works and introduce the Nueva Era: New Play Festival. The Shakespeare Theatre Company will feature Brian Cox in The Score along with other classics, while Folger Theatre focuses exclusively on Shakespeare.
