Craft Archive Fellows Present Research on Hanji, Gullah Basketry, and Migrant Embroidery in Virtual Panel
Mark your calendar for Wednesday, September 23, from 5 to 6:30 PM EST! The Center for Craft is teaming up with Hyperallergic to host a free virtual panel called "Archives in Action." This event will highlight the work of the 2025 Craft Archive Fellows, who are diving into fascinating subjects such as Hanji papermaking, George Washington Carver's influence on natural dyes, Gullah Geechee "fannuh" basketry, and the legacy of Black blacksmiths and Sankofa ironwork. Other topics include Mexican migrant altars in South Chicago and embroidery projects by (im)migrants in Queens. The fellows, including Teju Adisa-Farrar and Robert Choe-Henderson, will discuss their findings with Mellanee Goodman and Lakshmi Rivera Amin. This effort is supported by several awards aimed at promoting craft in the U.S.
