Courtauld Exhibition Highlights British Women Landscape Artists from 1760-1860

The Courtauld Gallery will host an exhibition titled 'A View of One's Own: Landscapes by British Women Artists, 1760-1860' from January 28 to May 20, 2026. This presentation focuses on drawings and watercolors created by female artists during a period when women faced significant institutional barriers in the arts. The show features ten artists, including Harriet Lister, Lady Mary Lowther, Amelia Long, Lady Farnborough, and Elizabeth Batty, whose works were recently rediscovered. These artists worked as both amateurs and professionals, with many remaining largely unknown until now. The exhibition aims to bring attention to their contributions within a male-dominated field, highlighting their training, practice, and exhibition activities despite exclusion from institutions like the Royal Academy.
