Comic-Con promoter bans Meta glasses over secret filming fears

Monopoly Events, the promoter behind major UK comic and entertainment conventions, has banned Meta glasses and other wearable recording devices from its events to prevent secret filming of guests and attendees. The decision follows complaints from talent and agents who felt their privacy was violated and threatened to stop attending. The ban applies to all Monopoly Events conventions, including Comic-Cons in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, and northeast England, as well as specialized events for wrestling, horror, and anime. Attendees caught using such devices will be asked to leave and forfeit unfulfilled autographs or photos. The move has drawn mixed reactions: some praise it for protecting privacy, while others worry about impacts on disabled attendees who rely on smart glasses for navigation. Skeptics also question enforceability. The ban comes after a separate incident where a passenger used Meta glasses to film without permission on a CalMac ferry.
