Comar's photographic project 'How Was Your Dream?' offers a visual testimony of the 2019 Hong Kong protests, focusing on the demonstrators' use of laser lights to disrupt police activities. The title references a phrase protesters used to discreetly discuss their experiences. The work examines how protesters developed techniques of invisibility and anonymity against a sophisticated arsenal of control including facial recognition, geolocation, water cannon, teargas, and sonic weapons. Comar questions whether these strategies, while transforming forms of struggle, push for the gradual erasure of individual singularities. The protests initially opposed an extradition bill allowing transfer of individuals from Hong Kong to mainland Chinese courts. By August 2022, over 10,000 Hongkongers had been arrested and nearly 3,000 prosecuted in connection with the movement.
