Colossal Statues Attributed to Ramses II Unearthed at Behbeit El-Hagar in Egypt

An excavation prompted by a granite block inscribed with hieroglyphs found in Behbeit El-Hagar has uncovered fragments of two massive sculptures associated with Ramses II, according to Hisham El-Leithy, secretary-general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA). One of the pieces features a stone head exceeding 1.5 meters in height, representing a male figure adorned with the double crown, while part of its back pillar bears the inscription "Hor-Ka-Nakht-Mery-Maat." The second fragment, reaching nearly 2.5 meters, depicts a royal figure wearing a striped headcloth, likely Ramses II. Additionally, the team discovered a pink granite block with hieroglyphs, including the titles "Nesu-Bity" and "Sa-Ra." Ramses II, who ruled for 66 years, was the third king of the 19th Dynasty and presided over Egypt's golden age.
