Colnaghi London presents Out of the Sand: Ancient Egypt Rediscovered

Colnaghi London has opened 'Out of the Sand: Ancient Egypt Rediscovered', an exhibition that juxtaposes ancient Egyptian artefacts with 19th- and early 20th-century paintings, drawings, rare books, and photographs. The show explores how Egypt was constructed, buried, unearthed, and repeatedly reinterpreted by outside cultures. It runs through 17 November 2026 and spans roughly four millennia, placing objects made by ancient Egyptians alongside works by later artists, travellers, scholars, and photographers who documented and interpreted the civilisation. The title references the recurring pattern of Egypt's rediscovery—never lost to the Egyptians themselves, but repeatedly found anew by successive foreign cultures, from Rome after the conquest of Cleopatra's kingdom to later European expeditions. The exhibition is on view at Colnaghi's London gallery, located at 26 Bury Street, St. James's.
