Collettivo damp's RAVE installation transforms VOGA Art Project with black light and sugar cubes

Collettivo damp presents RAVE, an environmental installation at VOGA Art Project in Bari from March 15 to May 9, 2026. The collective—comprising Alessandro Armento, Luisa de Donato, Viviana Marchiò, and Adriano Ponte—formed in Naples in 2017 and describes itself as an unintentional project with spontaneous development. Their intervention suspends ceiling fixtures near the floor and replaces existing neon lighting with a Wood's lamp, emitting ultraviolet radiation that reveals fluorescent materials. The darkened space features a bluish tone with three faint fixtures, while visitors unwittingly crush fluorescent sugar cubes and pigments underfoot, creating temporary particles that float through the air. This transformation obscures the usual visibility of the venue, making hidden elements apparent and altering spatial perception to feel more confined, empty, and unsettling. RAVE launches VOGA's COLLECTIVES programming series, which examines contemporary forms of collectivity. The collective's work maintains formal coherence through minimal yet decisive interventions that engage deeply with specific, often unconventional sites, reflecting on the temporary nature of things. Visitors become protagonists in the installation, though unaware, as their movement activates the fluorescent fragments. The environment evokes Simon Reynolds's commentary on McKenzie Wark's Raving, described as a miniature house for fugitive aliens already present on the planet.
